One Person, One Hotel, One Place Transformed - FangLiao Hotel
OCT, 2023FangLiao Hotel is located less than 500 meters from Fangliao Train Station and just 200 meters from Fangliao Fishing Port. In the past, Fangliao Train Station was merely the name of a railway station. However, since the birth of 'FangLiao Hotel' in 2019, Fangliao has transformed into more than just the starting point for the Blue Innocent Joy Tourist Train. It has become a new popular attraction in Pingtung.
Stepping out of Fangliao Train Station, in less than three minutes, you'll come across this elegant and modern eight-story boutique hotel. At the entrance, two wooden sculptures crafted by Paiwan indigenous artisans stand, exuding a powerful and rustic beauty. Initially, it might seem somewhat surprising, but after a heartfelt explanation by Chen Bo-An, the young manager of FangLiao Hotel, it becomes quite moving. As it turns out, in the small town of Fangliao, with fewer than 1,200 residents, a blend of Hoklo, Hakka, and Paiwan indigenous people coexist. The indigenous woodcraft skills are innate and exceptional. The hotel collaborates with Paiwan indigenous artists, allowing them to unleash their creativity. The hotel purchases their artwork, using it for decoration and display, and interested travelers can also make a purchase.
Upon entering the lobby of FangLiao Hotel, you can immediately feel a rich cultural ambiance. To the right, there's a resting area with indigenous artworks, and behind the reception desk, unassuming shelves display precious locally sourced agricultural products from the Fangliao area. These include wax apple, bananas, mangoes, and dragon fruit, featuring seasonal fresh fruits and natural dried fruits. Each of them is exceptionally sweet. Additionally, FangLiao Hotel has established the 'Fangke Market' at the train station. Apart from local fruits, dried fruits, the most popular items are the fresh catch of the day, such as groupers and 'wu zai yu'. These products are expertly packaged as perfect souvenirs, and hotel guests enjoy a 10% discount, making it convenient for travelers to take them home.
As a bridge platform connecting fishermen, farmers, and travelers, the 'Fangke Market' serves to promote agricultural products and cultural industries from Pingtung, including Fangliao, Jiadong, and Hengchun. The hotel's assistance to the local residents goes beyond this. FangLiao Hotel has also created a 'FangLiao Hotel Travel Map,' allowing travelers to explore freely with a map in hand. It includes recommendations for tourist attractions, fruit-picking trips to local farms, as well as nearby seafood restaurants and snacks. Virtually everything is covered. The hotel, after field visits and tastings, has curated the map of culinary delights, providing highly practical reference value.

The emergence of FangLiao Hotel itself is a touching legend. The owner, born in Jiadong, has a deep love for his hometown of Pingtung. He especially cherishes the tranquility of Fangliao Fishing Port. He believes that while Fangliao is rich in resources and boasts beautiful seaside scenery, with mountains, waters, and agricultural specialties in the surrounding areas, it lacked accommodations that would allow visitors to stay and savor the beauty. He decided to return to his hometown and establish a culturally enriched small boutique hotel. This would enable travelers to stay in the Fangliao and Jiadong region, simultaneously promoting local economic development and creating employment opportunities through cultural tourism. In just three years, the vicinity of Fangliao Train Station, once with only a few shops, has transformed into a thriving night market that never sleeps, with a Wellcome supermarket as one of the hotel's neighbors.
FangLiao Hotel boasts a captivating rooftop with an infinity pool and a small bar. From here, you can enjoy panoramic views of the harbor, distant and nearby buildings, and temples. Every day, you can witness the most beautiful sunsets over the harbor. You can even lie on the comfortable bed and appreciate the moonlight, savoring the tranquil moments of relaxation. This boutique hotel, with forty rooms, is typically around 80% occupied on weekdays and often fully booked on weekends. The breakfast features fresh grouper fish soup and local vegetables and fruits. Most guests who have stayed here tend to become repeat visitors, and family trips are quite common.
Special Itineraries:
